At the meeting, Nam Dan Medical Center presented the draft Project to become a satellite unit of Bach Mai Hospital. Accordingly, every year, the Center provides medical examination and treatment for more than 80,000 patients, inpatient treatment for more than 10,000 patients and performs about 1,000 surgeries.
Currently, the implementation of techniques at the center is still limited, not meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of the people; the number of patients who have to be transferred to other facilities is still high. The reason is due to degraded infrastructure, inadequate equipment, and lack of doctors in all departments.
When Nam Dan Medical Center becomes a satellite unit, Bach Mai Hospital will transfer, train, and develop techniques for the Center. In addition to improving the quality of examination and treatment, the Center will also reduce costs for patients, reduce the rate of referrals, and contribute to reducing the load on upper-level hospitals.
Bach Mai Hospital will focus on helping transfer technology to Nam Dan Medical Center in key specialties such as emergency resuscitation, artificial kidney, diagnostic imaging, surgical trauma, treatment and diagnosis of endocrine diseases, and training of specialist doctors (including 17 training packages). The total investment for this project is expected to be about 10.5 billion VND, of which equipment costs are about 7.9 billion VND.

For the project to be approved, it needs to go through 3 steps: First, Nam Dan Medical Center develops the project and submits it to the Department of Health, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee for approval and sends it to the Ministry of Health; second, Bach Mai Hospital reports the survey results and proposes the acceptance policy; third, the Ministry of Health issues a decision to add Nam Dan Medical Center to the satellite hospital project of Bach Mai Hospital.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Thong stated: Bach Mai Hospital is a special-class hospital at the central level. Currently, the hospital is responsible for transferring technology to 34 satellite hospitals, including 33 provincial hospitals and 1 international private hospital.
Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Thong also highly appreciated the determination of the industry and locality in developing Nam Dan Medical Center and committed to providing maximum and comprehensive support so that the project would be approved soon, helping Nam Dan Medical Center to increasingly improve the quality of medical examination and treatment./.
