Central Committee of Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association congress for the 2021 - 2026 term

On the Central side, there was comrade Vu Vuong Viet, former Head of the Cambodia Department of the Party Central Committee's Foreign Affairs Committee, former Head of the Central Committee's expert delegation to Cambodia, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association; representatives of relevant Ministries, Departments and Branches; leaders of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association in Vietnam and in Cambodia, and 270 delegates attending online at connecting points nationwide.

Many practical activities contributing to consolidating and strengthening the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia have been effectively implemented by the Central Association and Friendship Associations in localities and units under the Central Association.

The Association has proactively and actively mobilized funding sources to socialize activities, targeting poor Cambodian people and people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia who are facing difficulties. Especially during the time when the two countries faced complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Association mobilized socialized resources to deploy many support activities to the neighboring country.

The “Friendship Nurturing” program to sponsor Cambodian students studying in Vietnam has been widely and synchronously implemented with high efficiency. Up to now, 300 Cambodian students have been sponsored in the Northern provinces and 149 in the Southern provinces.

The Association has focused on strengthening, building and developing widespread organizations, especially in localities sharing borders with Cambodia among former volunteer soldiers and former experts.

Based on the assessment of performance results, lessons learned in the past and awareness of the requirements of the new situation, the Association has proposed directions and solutions to strengthen the organization, enhance capacity, continue to innovate and further improve the effectiveness of the Association's operations in the next term with 8 key tasks.

The outstanding task throughout is to strengthen the propaganda and education work in depth for members and people of the two countries about the traditional solidarity and friendship between the two nations. At the same time, continue to consolidate and build the Association at all levels and the Vietnam - Cambodia business club to build effective economic development directions for the two countries as well as improve the effectiveness of support for provinces and cities, especially localities sharing the border with Cambodia.

It is necessary to continue to effectively implement the "Nurturing Friendship" program to help and create conditions for students to better understand the good customs and traditions of Vietnam.

In the increasingly complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Association needs to innovate its operating methods through multimedia channels to operate continuously, regularly and effectively.

The conference elected the list of Executive Committee of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association for the 5th term (2021 - 2026) with 140 members. Of which, comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee, Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee of the 15th National Assembly Standing Committee was elected as the new President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association for the 5th term of 2021 - 2026.

Comrade Vo Viet Thanh - former member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, former Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association was re-elected as a member of the Executive Committee for the 5th term.

On this occasion, the Party and State leaders awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to the Association; the Cambodian Ambassador awarded the Friendship Medal of the Cambodian Prime Minister to individuals with outstanding achievements in the Association's activities; awarded commemorative medals and Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to members with many contributions during the past term; announced the awarding of the Association's flag to units with outstanding achievements during the term and presented souvenirs of gratitude to units and enterprises that accompanied and sponsored the Association's activities.

The Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of Nghe An province was established in 2006 and now has 860 members.

The Association has 6 branches in districts and towns: Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Nghi Loc, Thanh Chuong, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau and Vinh city.
