Head of the People's Petition Committee: Must deal with 'petty corruption'

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai said that voters hope that public ethics and responsibility in performing public duties of local authorities must be transformed.

Today (November 16), before starting the question and answer session at the 4th Session of the 14th National Assembly, Head of the Petition Committee of the National Assembly Standing Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai will present a report on the results of supervising the settlement of voters' petitions sent to the 3rd Session of the 14th National Assembly.

Voters care about handling corruption

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the National Assembly, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai said that many voters' recommendations were answered thoroughly and completely, such as those related to administrative procedure reform, reducing specialized inspection work, and overlap...

Voters are excited that many major corruption and economic cases have been brought to trial recently. However, the handling of corruption has not been commensurate with the current situation. In particular, the recovery of corrupt assets has not been thorough. Therefore, voters hope that the Government will take stronger measures.

The female National Assembly delegate also said that voters are not satisfied with the handling of issues related to "petty corruption".

“The Prime Minister strongly declared that the Government is honest and constructive, but voters reflect that public agencies at the commune and district levels are corrupt, extortionate, and harassing. How do voters evaluate the Government? The Prime Minister is very determined, but that enthusiasm needs to be spread more strongly, with better inspection sanctions so that the heat from above can spread down,” said Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai.

The fundamental point that voters expect is that public ethics and the responsibility of performing public duties of the grassroots government must be transformed to build an honest and active government.

“Petty corruption not only affects people but also greatly affects society and human morality” – the Head of the People's Petition Committee emphasized.

"Industry commanders" answer voters' concerns

Head of the People's Aspirations Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai said that the four areas chosen for questioning are all issues of concern to voters not only in this session but also in previous sessions.

Regarding the judiciary, in recent times, wrongful convictions, compensation for wrongful convictions... have created public opinion. People have high expectations for the judicial system, independent trials and especially transparency, because through the collection of voters' opinions, many provinces have requested to provide information on specific cases.

“The question and answer session is an opportunity for the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court to share the difficulties in adjudication work, human resources, material resources... At the same time, the Chief Justice also faced many opinions from delegates reflecting the wishes of voters on the quality of adjudication to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of relevant parties" - Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai emphasized.
