(Baonghean.vn) – In the storymeeting with voters of Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district, TrHead of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac said that the court has sentenced 8 people to death and 13 to life in prison for corruption in recent years.

On the morning of October 4, National Assembly delegates including Mr. Phan Dinh Trac - Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee; Moong Van Tinh - official of Que Phong District Youth Union and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao - doctor of Tay Bac General Hospital met with voters of Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district.

At the conference, many voters made recommendations on agricultural, farmer and rural policies. Mr. Pham Van Ngoan - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghia Lien commune said that about 90% of people in Nghia Lien commune are engaged in agricultural production, however, support for farmers to buy machinery for production has not met the demand.

Some farmers want to borrow money to buy combine harvesters, but currently only 200 million VND is supported in loans out of a total value of 600 million VND. "I propose that there be appropriate support policies so that farmers can buy combine harvesters," said voter Ngoan.

Voter Pham Tien Dung, Lien Thap hamlet, suggested that it is necessary to do a good job of linking the State, enterprises and farmers to improve the lives of farmers; at the same time, move the factory to Western Nghe An to solve jobs for rural workers, especially young workers.

Referring to the fact that people in Nghia Lien commune are changing their crop structure to lemon and orange trees, voter Le Duy Hoan, Hiep 1 hamlet, suggested that relevant authorities need to have a proactive policy to solve the problem of product consumption, otherwise the situation of "good harvest, low price and vice versa" will occur.

Mr. Pham Xuan Dieu, Thap hamlet, said that voters saw many major cases happening across the country and "requested the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption to organize well the inspection and supervision work in this work".

Regarding the issue of increasing the retirement age, voter Nguyen Thi Mai, Dong Tam hamlet, proposed keeping the retirement age the same for direct laborers such as workers due to the heavy nature of the work.

Also at the conference, voters made many recommendations related to the implementation of policies for people with meritorious services, frontline workers, and people infected with Agent Orange; attention to increasing the number of doctors at lower-level hospitals to improve the effectiveness of medical examination and treatment; and the level of penalties for environmental violations is not strong enough...

Regarding the cases that the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption has monitored and directed, many cases have been brought to trial with strict sentences, the right person, the right crime. Mr. Phan Dinh Trac said: For corruption crimes, the court has sentenced 8 to death, 13 to life imprisonment, 4 defendants to 30 years and 153 defendants to terms of 2 years to less than 30 years, only 4 defendants received suspended sentences.

"There is a subject involved in 4 cases, including 2 death sentences, one life sentence, and one 18-year prison sentence," Mr. Phan Dinh Trac emphasized when referring to the determination to prevent and fight corruption of our Party and State.

However, in an exchange with voters, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Phan Dinh Trac also frankly stated that strictly punishing corrupt individuals is not enough and that many other measures must be taken. “It is not only the superiors who are responsible for preventing and combating corruption, but also the people,” Mr. Phan Dinh Trac emphasized, adding that the National Assembly is currently amending the law on anti-corruption to further improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption work.
