Universities that do not enroll students still 'circumvent the law' to receive budget money

(Baonghean.vn) - In 2014 - 2015, although 2 majors could not recruit students, Nghe An University of Economics still settled to get nearly 2 billion VND in budget.

According to sources of Nghe An Newspaper, authorities have just discovered a number of violations at Nghe An University of Economics regarding the misuse of many financial resources with a total amount of more than 2 billion VND.

Notably, the most violations were concentrated in the training sector. Specifically, in 2014 and 2015, Nghe An University of Economics had 200 regular undergraduate quotas and 100 college quotas in the two majors of Plant Science and Forestry with 100% training budget.

However, in reality, in 2014 and 2015, there were no students enrolled in both the Plant Science and Forestry departments. However, when submitting to the competent authority for the settlement of the budget allocated, Nghe An University of Economics did not report to reduce the amount of funding received according to regulations but still submitted the settlement of the funding allocated to students in the above two departments with a total of 168 university students and 16 college students.

The total amount of funds used and incorrectly settled in 2014 and 2015 for students majoring in Forestry and Plant Science (both university and college levels) was 1 billion 968 million VND.

Currently, the authorities are recommending the Provincial People's Committee to assign the Department of Home Affairs to seriously review the violating groups and individuals. Nghe An University of Economics has also paid the full amount of the violation into the account pending processing.
