School in Ky Son evacuated hundreds of students overnight to prevent flash floods
A school in the mountainous district of Ky Son, Nghe An had to evacuate hundreds of boarding students to prevent flash floods.
Teacher Thai Dinh Bay, Principal of Chieu Luu 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Chieu Luu Commune, Ky Son District (Nghe An) said that this is a school that was damaged by floods in previous years. On the night of September 10, the school had to mobilize staff and teachers to help evacuate 149 boarding students who were staying at the school, because the floodwaters in a nearby stream rose.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Chieu Luu 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities has 243 students, including 149 boarding students. Most of the students are children of ethnic minorities, most of whose parents work far away, leaving their children at home with grandparents or relatives.
During this school year, all students from grades 1 to 5 are organized by the school to study at the main campus, in which students from grades 3 to 5 are taught English and Information Technology according to the 2018 general education program.

According to Mr. Bay, due to the continuous heavy rain for many hours, the water in the stream behind the boarding house of the students rose, posing a potential risk of flash floods. To ensure the safety of the boarding students, the school had to evacuate them to sleep and take shelter in the classrooms in the 2-story building of the school to avoid floods.
