Arrest of drug 'scam' suspect from Nghe An hiding in Da Nang
(Baonghean.vn) - After defrauding a judge of more than 300 million VND, Ngo Tri Tu fled to Da Nang to avoid police investigation.
A source from the Investigation Police Agency of Hoang Mai Town Police (Nghe An) said that the unit has just issued a decision to prosecute the case of Fraudulent appropriation of property, prosecuting the accused Ngo Tri Tu (born in 1985), residing in Mai Hung ward, Hoang Mai town.

By “bragging” that he has many connections and is capable of “getting a case overturned”, Tu committed fraud, accepting to help Ms. HTT’s son (Hoang Mai) who was arrested for illegally transporting drugs. This is not a new scam, but many victims still fall into the trap.
At the end of August 2018, Ms. T.'s son was arrested by Vinh City Police for illegally transporting drugs. Through an introduction, Ms. T. approached Tu to discuss the matter with a negotiated price of 360 million VND.
After accepting, Tu took Ms. T. to meet the Vinh City Police officer who was investigating her son's case and gave him 7 million VND. However, the investigating officer refused, explaining the illegal actions of her son and herself if she continued to give the money.
Despite the police officer’s explanation, Ms. T. still believed in Tu and told him to keep the money to continue to take care of and “fix” her son. Ms. T. transferred money to Tu 7 times, totaling 240 million VND.
Some time later, Ms. T.’s son was summoned by the Vinh City Police Department and was temporarily detained. Worried about her son, when Tu asked her to transfer money, Ms. T. continued to transfer money to Tu, amounting to 63 million VND. After a while, she discovered that she had been scammed, Ms. T. stopped sending money to Tu. As for Tu, when he saw that his actions were about to be exposed, he often left the area.
Ms. T.’s son’s case was brought to trial in mid-2019, and was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Vinh City People’s Court. After that, Ms. T. repeatedly asked Tu to return the entire amount of 310 million VND that Ms. T. had previously transferred to him, but he was refused.
Conducting investigation and verification, Hoang Mai City Police determined that the subject had fled the locality. Using professional measures, Hoang Mai City Police organized a search and arrested the subject while he was hiding in Da Nang.
