Posthumously awarded Medal of Courage to male student who saved drowning person

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 10, at Thanh Chuong 3 High School, a ceremony was held to posthumously award the President's Medal of Courage and a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training to Nguyen Anh Tuan, a 12th grade student.

This is the recognition of the President and the Ministry of Education and Training for the brave, selfless, and sacrificial act of Nguyen Anh Tuan to save a drowning person.

At the award ceremony, the leaders of the Department of Education and Training highly appreciated Nguyen Anh Tuan's sacrifice, regardless of difficulties and life. Nguyen Anh Tuan's brave act of selflessly saving people is a shining example for youth and students across the country to follow.

Students of Thanh Chuong 3 High School commemorate Nguyen Anh Tuan

Previously, at 10:30 a.m. on July 19, 2015, at the Gia ferry wharf area, on the bank of the Lam River, in Cat Van Commune, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim and her son Nguyen Anh Tuan (born in 1998), Mr. Tran Cong Son (born in 1993) and Dang Hoang Anh (born in 2005) went to the Gia ferry wharf area to rake mussels. While raking mussels, Mr. Son and Hoang Anh slipped into deep water and drowned.

Comrade Thai Huy Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, awarded the Medal of Courage to Nguyen Anh Tuan's family.

Discovering that Mr. Son and Hoang Anh were drowning, Mrs. Kim shouted for help. Hearing his mother's cries for help, Nguyen Anh Tuan, who was raking mussels about 50 meters from the two drowning victims, swam to the rescue and brought Dang Hoang Anh to shore. After that, Tuan continued to swim to save Mr. Son, but due to exhaustion, both Tuan and Mr. Son sank into the river.

Immediately after the incident, First Secretary of the Central Youth Union Nguyen Dac Vinh also awarded the Brave Youth Badge to Nguyen Anh Tuan.
