According to the investigation results, Ms. Pham Thi Khanh (47 years old, residing in Thoi Son commune, My Tho city), works as a ferryman on Tien river, through My Tho city.
At around 8:00 p.m. on April 28, Ms. Khanh drove her boat to the Tien River to pick up passengers, then mysteriously disappeared.
At nearly 10:30 p.m. the same day, Mr. Tran Van Hieu (raising fish in a raft in Tan Binh neighborhood, Tan Long ward) discovered Ms. Khanh's boat drifting freely on the river.Mr. Hieu tied it to his fish raft. The next morning, Mr. Hieu checked and found many blood stains on the boat, so he reported it to the police. At 5:00 p.m. the same day, people discovered Ms. Khanh's body floating on the Tien River in Tan Long Ward.

During the autopsy, a circular rope was wrapped around the victim's neck. There were two lacerations on the right temporal and left temporal regions with sharp edges, deep to the skull bone. The cause of death was due to a ruptured skull membrane, appearing under the dura mater on the left hemisphere, and death by drowning.

During the investigation, the police extracted cameras on the roads and households and discovered that after killing Ms. Khanh, the perpetrator went ashore in Tan Long ward.
After that, he continued to rent a boat and went ashore in Ward 1 (My Tho City) and then took a motorbike taxi to Highway 1A, the section belonging to Trung Luong Intersection. Here, he hired a taxi to take him to Truong An Commune (Vinh Long City) to go to a restaurant to eat and drink.

The suspect continued to rent a car to travel from Vinh Long to Can Tho City. In Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City), the suspect rented a hotel on Tran Van Kheo Street to go to a massage parlor to “relax”. At dawn on April 29, the suspect left the hotel and escaped.
