Without a medical practice certificate, the mother and daughter pharmacy owners still administered IV fluids, causing one person to die.

The People's Procuracy of Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc Province, recently completed the indictment to prosecute the mother and daughter owners of a private pharmacy for administering IV fluids that caused death.

Previously, Ms. Hoang Thi Chi (born in 1960) and her daughter Nguyen Thi Hang (born in 1986), residing in Han Lu residential area, Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city, opened a drug store called Hien Chi pharmacy.

At about 8:00 a.m. on April 18, 2017, Mr. PVQ (born in 1974), a resident of the same neighborhood group, came to Chi's house to ask for an IV. Afterwards, Ms. Chi and Hang arbitrarily used 3 types of medicine including 2 bottles of 5% Glucose solution, 2 tubes of 50ml Calciclorid and 2 tubes of Dimedrol 10mg/1ml (these are medicines that can only be sold and used under the prescription of a qualified doctor) to infuse into Mr. Q's vein.

At about 9:30 a.m. the same day, Mr. Q complained of fatigue, trembling limbs, and pale skin, so Chi called everyone to come and take Mr. Q to Lac Viet Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment, but Mr. Q later died.

According to the conclusion, both mother and son did not have a medical practice certificate and were prosecuted for the act of intravenous infusion causing death.
