(Baonghean.vn) - On June 25, the Global Times - the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party said they would "wait and see the consequences of this democratic referendum" in the UK.

Sự kiện Anh rời EU gây ra cú sốc lớn cho cả thế giới.
The event of Britain leaving the EU caused a great shock to the whole world.

The newspaper also said that the British people had “lost their minds” by voting to leave the EU, and likened it to “closing the door to the outside world”. “The axis of the world used to be on the two shores of the Atlantic, but now it has swung to the Pacific.”

The main topic of Chinese press recently has been the Trump phenomenon in the US presidential election, and this Brexit event is similar.

Some other newspapers have also suggested that this is an opportunity for the UK to sign trade agreements with Asian countries after the country leaves the EU. However, this is unlikely to happen. Mr. Chris Peters, editor of China Daily's, commented that it would take up to 10 years to negotiate trade agreements with China.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke out against Britain leaving the EU. According to a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, a prosperous Europe is in the interests of all parties and China is always ready to cooperate with the UK as well as ensure its relationship with the EU.

Following the Brexit event, Hong Kong's stock market fell nearly 5%, while China's was barely affected, fluctuating just over 1%. The People's Bank of China has issued a statement on how it will handle the potential crisis. "We will continue to implement a stable and sustainable monetary policy, along with a variety of tools to ensure liquidity and financial stability," the bank said.
