Russia's new supersonic aircraft Tu-160M2, currently being produced at domestic factories, is considered one of the most anticipated new products of the military-defense industry.

It is known that this aircraft will become the basis for the construction of the future long-term aviation complex “PAK DA”, in addition, it will play an important role in replacing a number of long-range bombers: Tu-22M3, Tu-95MS and Tu-160.

Thanks to the special capabilities and equipment on the aircraft, this bomber force has made many potential opponents think twice about carrying out aggressive actions against Russia. One of the special features of this type of bomber is stealth technology, large payload but high speed and use of many different types of weapons.

Experts and engineers have repeatedly emphasized that the stealth capabilities of this bomber will turn defense systems into “toys”.

The head of the Tu-160M2 program wants them to be a unique multi-role aircraft. They can be an interceptor, a long-range strategic bomber, even used in a tactical bombing role or as a launch platform for spacecraft.

Therefore, the task of engineers and designers will be very difficult. Tu-60M2 must achieve the speed of an interceptor, or in other words, high maneuverability when they have to carry many types of missiles, bombs and other weapons. Note that when carrying a large load, their speed slows down. This is a very difficult task for designers. But representatives of this project are very confident in their capabilities.

So there is reason to believe that the T-160M2 bomber will become a legend of the aircraft industry like the T-64 tank became a legend in the Soviet era. They were once the main tank of the Soviet army. If there was a T-64 back then, Russia would have the Tu-160M2 today.

In an interview with Polit Ekspert, Doctor of Military Sciences, military analyst and chairman of the Geopolitical Association, Sivkov Konstantin Valentinovich said that the Tu-160M2 is a completely new and unique aircraft, which in the future will open up great prospects.

“This is a completely new design that reflects Russia's strategic vision. The Tu-160M2 is optimized for the use of cruise missiles and bombs, including conventional and nuclear ones.

One of the advantages of this type of aircraft is the precise destruction of targets both on the ground and in the air while using conventional weapons. This version also allows them to use high-precision missiles such as Kh-29 and Kh-58,” explained Konstantin Valentinovich.

The military expert also noted that the Tu-160M2 can easily perform all assigned tasks and can be upgraded or installed with additional equipment easily. It can fight against warships, ground targets as well as enemy aircraft. Currently, Russia owns the “Caliber-MK” anti-ship missiles and it is very likely that after upgrading they can be equipped on this type of aircraft.

The Tu-160M2 is more like a fighter. This could be a problem, because in combat maneuverability is important but their large mass can affect their maneuverability. So they will prioritize equipping them with long-range missiles.

For example, the Kh-37 is a missile currently in service and equipped on various aircraft, allowing it to destroy targets at very large distances.

In this case, Russian aircraft do not need to engage in close combat and can avoid attacks with medium-range missiles and below. The Tu-160's payload is very large, so it can carry 12-16 missiles, allowing it to destroy a large number of enemy aircraft. In addition, this aircraft can be equipped with upgraded X-55 missiles.

However, he also noted that to be able to use missiles fired at very long distances and ensure accuracy, a very powerful phased array radar system is needed to detect enemies from a distance of 450 km to 500 km. Therefore, it is necessary to modernize and equip them deeply.

The expert also believes that the new aircraft will not have problems with the transportation of any space objects. This does not require difficult equipment and in fact Russia has already conducted such tests. For example, An-225 was created to launch Burana. So launching satellites or spacecraft is quite possible.
