Claiming to have 'completed his mission', Georgian Prime Minister hastily resigned after 1 year in power
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze suddenly announced his resignation on September 2, more than a year after he was appointed head of the Georgian Government.
Mr. Bakhtadze said that his main goal and task upon being appointed Prime Minister of Georgia in 2018 was to create and implement a strategic development framework to ensure the achievement of the country's goals in the coming years.
He stated that now a strategic framework has been created and implemented, so he decided to resign because he believes he has "fulfilled his mission in this period".

Mr. Bakhtadze was approved by the parliament as prime minister in June 2018. At that time, he pledged to implement liberal reforms and push for Georgia to become a member of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
He stressed that this is a key task in Georgia's foreign policy and is very important for the country's security and stable development.
The Georgian Prime Minister's announcement of his resignation and his assertion that he had "accomplished his mission" surprised many people. In fact, Georgia's entry into the EU and NATO is still far away.
