Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Xu Xiaodong wrote on his Weibo social media account about being surrounded by seven Tai Chi students surnamed Chen at a commercial building in Beijing on May 4, Chinanews reported yesterday.
"They were shouting the name of their Tai Chi sect. I was so scared they would beat me up," said Tu, who said he had gone to the building to meet Tai Chi master Su Jianping.
This is the first time Xu has been surrounded since he knocked out Tai Chi master Wei Lei in 10 seconds on April 27. Xu then criticized traditional Chinese martial arts, even declaring Tai Chi to be "the biggest hoax in the past 500 years."
Asked about continuing to challenge traditional martial arts masters, Tu said "pressure from many sides" made him feel tired, and he might step into the ring at the right time.
WeMedia01 commented that Xu's statement showed that he had "erased" the challenge to the traditional Chinese martial arts masters. Xu also canceled the press conference about the traditional martial arts challenge, saying that he had "a sore throat and could not speak".
The Chinese Traditional Martial Arts Association issued a statement calling on martial artists to stop challenging Xu because "the victory or defeat of an individual does not represent a school".
