Death penalty for wanted man still trafficking drugs across borders
(Baonghean.vn) - After being wanted for "Murder", My fled to Laos. A while later, My returned home and traded nearly 2 kg of drugs.
On April 5, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a criminal trial to try defendants Le Huu My (born in 1988), residing in Cam My commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh); Pham Ngoc Thang (born in 2001), residing in Dien Hanh commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) and Ha Van Nit (born in 1980), residing in Quang Chieu commune, Muong Lat district (Thanh Hoa) for the same crime.“Illegal drug trafficking”.
In June 2020, after committing the act of "Murder" in Binh Duong province, My crossed the border to Laos to work as a construction worker and met Thang, Nit and a Laotian named A Chang. At the end of July 2022, My asked Nit to take him back to Vietnam through the forest.

On August 22, 2022, A Chang called the US to check on each other. At this time, the US ordered drugs from Laos but had not yet agreed on the quantity.
After a customer in Hanoi ordered 1 kg of crystal meth and 1 kg of ketamine (for a total of 400 million VND), My contacted A Chang to order 2 kg of drugs (for 137 million VND).
Then, the US hired Thang to cross the border into Laos to get the drugs. Knowing that Nit lived near the border, the US called to hire a guide to take Thang to Laos to get the "goods". The US promised to pay 50 million VND for each person. The US transferred 15 million VND to Thang and 20 million VND to Nit in advance for travel expenses.
On August 26, 2022, after going to Laos with the help of Nit, Thang contacted the US. Through instructions, Thang gave money to buy drugs to A Chang and received 2 kg of drugs in return.
At noon on September 4, 2022, Thang returned to the Laos - Vietnam border area and was picked up by Nit to go home for dinner. At 5:20 p.m. the same day, Pham Ngoc Thang was arrested by the police in Thanh Hoa with the evidence. Based on Thang's statement, the police arrested Nit. Le Huu My turned himself in to the police.
At the trial, the defendants all admitted to their crimes. Defendant My said he bought drugs from Lao people to sell to customers in Hanoi. Regarding the money he spent on drugs, My said he saved it while doing business in Laos.
The two defendants Thang and Nit confessed to transporting drugs for Thang because of the promise of 50 million VND.
In their final statements, the defendants asked the court to consider reducing their sentences.
Considering that in this case, defendant Le Huu My committed the crime as the mastermind and had a bad character, the court sentenced him to death. Defendant Pham Ngoc Thang was sentenced to life in prison and defendant Ha Van Nit to 20 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking"./.
