Death penalty for rapist who brutally murdered 7-year-old child

Nguyen Van Muoi brutally murdered a seven-year-old child and put his body in a plastic bag.

On August 30, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City rejected the appeal to uphold the death sentence of Nguyen Van Muoi (45 years old, residing in Vinh Long province) for two crimes of child rape and murder.

At the first instance trial, Vinh Long Provincial People's Court sentenced Muoi to the above sentence. The defendant appealed for a reduced sentence, saying that he was drunk and could not control himself.

The appellate panel found that the defendant's actions were inhumane, could not be reformed, and that no new circumstances had emerged, so the appeal was dismissed.

According to the records, on the afternoon of August 6, 2016, after drinking alcohol, Muoi returned home in Thanh Phu hamlet, Thanh Loi commune, Binh Tan district to watch pornographic movies. At this time, seeing PNB (born in 2009) passing by, Muoi called B into the house and committed a depraved act.

Child B reacted strongly against the attack. Muoi was afraid that people would find out, so he killed the child and put the body in a plastic bag. Fearing that the victim was not completely dead, Muoi used a hammer to beat him further and hid the bag containing the victim's body in a water jar.

After that, Muoi washed, erased the traces, and lay down on the hammock in front of the house. He met B's mother looking for her child. When she asked, Muoi got on his motorbike and left. When everyone went into the house to search, they found B's body and reported to the police to arrest the perpetrator.
