Death penalty for drug trafficker of nearly half a kilo of drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Agreeing to "carry" drugs from Laos to Vietnam to receive 1,000 USD, Vu was sentenced to death by the People's Court of Nghe An.
On September 21, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Tia Tong Long Vu (born 1985), residing in Xop Khi village, Xay Cham Phon district, Bolikhamxay province (Laos) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.
According to the case file, on the evening of October 21, 2020, Vu received a phone call from Cong Ly (residing in Lac Xao village, Kham Cot district, Bolykhamxay province) asking him to transport drugs to Vietnam to sell to two men and receive 1,000 USD. Seeing the large amount of money, Vu agreed.
After that, Vu received a bag of snake carcasses containing drugs from Cong Ly's men. Ly's side also gave Vu a phone with the phone numbers of the two Vietnamese people who bought the "goods".

Immediately after that, Vu began his journey by walking along the forest path and then crossed the Vietnam border. On the morning of October 24, Vu called the drug recipient and was told to receive the "goods" at 2 a.m. the next morning at the Cay Sung eco-tourism area (in Phuc Son commune, Anh Son district). However, because Vu got lost, the delivery was postponed to the evening of the same day.
At 9:30 p.m. on October 25, Vu had just brought the snake skin containing drugs to the meeting point at the Cay Sung eco-tourism area when the police suddenly arrived and arrested him along with nearly 5 kg of drugs. Taking advantage of the gap, the two drug buyers escaped.
At the trial, the defendant only admitted to transporting drugs for hire for a fee, not buying or selling. However, the prosecutor participating in the trial affirmed that the prosecution of the defendant for drug trafficking was correct and in accordance with Vietnamese law.
With an exceptionally large amount of drugs, the People's Court sentenced Tia Tong Long Vu to death for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
Regarding Cong Ly, the investigation agency has entrusted the Lao authorities to verify, summon, and record statements, but there has been no response yet. When there is a basis for handling, we will proceed.
