Death penalty for fugitive still trafficking drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite being wanted by the police for drug-related crimes, Duan continued to traffic "white goods". Duan hired Hao to transport the "goods" to Nghe An for a fee of 100 million VND. In the end, both were sentenced to death.
On November 26, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Van Duan (40 years old), residing in Hanh Lam commune (Thanh Chuong) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking" and Nguyen Van Hao (47 years old), from Bac Giang province, residing in District 12 (Ho Chi Minh City) for the crime of "Illegal transportation of drugs".
Nguyen Van Duan is a defendant with a bad personal history, having served a 10-year sentence for the crime of "Killing". Duan was also involved in another drug case and was sentenced to death.
According to investigation documents, in March 2020, Duan was arrested by Nghe An police.wantedfor the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking" so he escaped to Ho Chi Minh City and met Hao again.

Duong wanted to buy drugs to sell in the South, so he hired Hao to transport the drugs to Nghe An. Hao agreed, and agreed on a transportation price of 20 million VND/kg.
On April 6, 2020, Duan called Chien Xa (Laotian) to order 5 kg of crystal meth for 25,000 USD.
That same evening, Duan took 22,500 USD from Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An to buy drugs. On the way back, Duan hired a man named Ha (living in Hanh Lam commune) to go to the Vietnam - Laos border area to get drugs for 60 million VND. Ha agreed.
After reaching an agreement with the seller, Duận called Hạ to let him know where the money was hidden. Hạ went to the gate of Hamlet 2, Hanh Lam Commune, took 22,500 USD, gave it to Chien Xa, then took the drugs back and told Duận where the drugs were hidden.
Then, Duong went to Ho Chi Minh City to call Hao to go to Nghe An to transport drugs. To have a means of transportation, Hao rented a car and went to Nghe An to wait for Duong's order to pick up the drugs.
At 3am on April 22, Duan called Hao and gave him directions to where Ha was hiding the drugs. Hao took the sack of drugs, put it in his car and returned to Ho Chi Minh City.
When Hao was driving to Ben Thuy bridge (Vinh city), he was discovered and arrested by Nghe An police. The evidence of the case was more than 5 kg of crystal meth.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted to their crimes. Defendant Duân confessed to trafficking drugs for profit. Hao confessed to transporting drugs to receive 100 million VND in wages.
Facing the death penalty, both defendants expressed remorse and regret, explaining their difficult family circumstances and young children to ask for a chance to live.
Considering that the amount of drugs that the two defendants trafficked and transported was exceptionally large, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Duan and Nguyen Van Hao to death.
