From a former soldier to a labor hero.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hong was born and raised in a poor farming family in Thanh Lam commune (Thanh Chuong district). He lost his mother at birth and his father at the age of eight. Although not yet old enough to enlist, Dr. Nguyen Minh Hong volunteered to join the army, was sent to study to become a medical assistant, and then a doctor to serve in the military. After more than 30 years of service, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
(Baonghean)Dr.
He led a simple life, always caring for his family and colleagues, and was respected and admired by his friends and peers. Throughout his career, he held various positions, always striving to excel in all circumstances to complete every task assigned to him, making significant contributions to society in general and Nghe An province in particular. He was one of the pioneers nationwide in implementing the private healthcare model.
On November 10, 1989, he boldly founded the "Center for On-Demand Medical Examination and Treatment" at 28B Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi (the Party's policy on healthcare socialization was only introduced in 1993; the National Assembly Standing Committee issued a Decree allowing private medical practice in February 2002; and the National Assembly enacted the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment in November 2009).
With his passion and dedication to his profession, he gathered many excellent professors and doctors and effectively operated the "Center for Examination and Treatment on Demand". Later, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Ministry of Science and Technology transformed it into the "Center for Research and Application of Medical Advancements in Vietnam" according to Decision No. 303-QD/LHH dated April 29, 1997 and Decision No. 571 dated May 7, 1998 of the Ministry of Science and Technology. This place has become a destination for renowned scientists, medical professionals, and skilled doctors from all over the country.
In addition, he paid great attention to training the next generation of staff. Many young doctors who graduated from medical school and technicians who graduated from high school joined his center. He prioritized those from disadvantaged backgrounds and children from poor rural areas.
In the unit's business operations, he is decisive, daring to invest in purchasing and improving modern equipment and machinery, applying high technology, and proposing the best methods to serve patients, such as: purchasing a leading PET CT machine (early cancer detection machine) in Vietnam, equipping the examination and treatment facilities with modern equipment to serve the needs of all patients, selecting a team of excellent professors, doctors, and skilled technicians... As a result, the Center is increasingly attracting many patients from all walks of life for examination and treatment.
He was also the initiator and sponsor of the "Your Doctor" program on Nghe An Radio and Television. Over the past 10 years, 464 programs have been produced and broadcast in both Vietnamese and Hmong languages to answer people's health questions. The program has contributed to helping poor patients find affordable solutions for treatment, care, and health protection.
To disseminate health knowledge to the public and encourage widespread participation, he successfully defended the project "Community Health Knowledge Dissemination Center," which was established by Decision No. 299 of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Learning on August 28, 2008. He has authored seven books, including five medical books published by the Medical Publishing House, and donated over 100,000 free copies to people nationwide, especially in remote areas.
Doctor Nguyen Minh Hong donated gifts to disadvantaged localities and poor people.
Furthermore, through practical actions, he has supported many localities across the country, from remote and impoverished areas. A large portion of the profits and income from his business operations has been dedicated to charitable work. His actions have set a shining example for many other philanthropists to follow, especially businesspeople and enterprises with financial means.
For Nghe An province, his impoverished homeland, he has shown a special sense of responsibility in helping and supporting the people of the province by investing in infrastructure, medical equipment, teaching equipment, building schools, hospitals, bridges, and roads, as well as buying and donating books, warm clothes, and sponsoring scholarships for students…
Over the years, the total amount of money he has donated and supported (according to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, the Office of the National Assembly Delegation and the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial Radio and Television Station, and the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province) is over 100 billion VND. In addition, he has traveled to several other provinces to do charity work, donating a total of over 10 billion VND. Although he knew he had a terminal illness (cancer) since 2011, he concealed his illness to fulfill his wish to help impoverished localities. Currently, his health is not good, and he is receiving dedicated treatment from professors and doctors.
For his significant contributions to society in general and Nghe An province in particular, on May 31, 2013, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong, Member of Parliament (from the Nghe An delegation), Director of Nguyen Minh Hong Private General Hospital, was honored by the President of Vietnam with the title of Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period for: "having achieved exceptionally outstanding results in labor and creativity, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland." This is a prestigious award bestowed by the Party and State upon Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong personally, but it is also a source of pride for his agency, family, clan, and Nghe An province, truly befitting a son of the homeland in this land rich in revolutionary traditions.
Due to Dr. Nguyen Minh Hong's current health condition, he is unable to hold the Hero of Labor award ceremony in Nghe An. Therefore, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has decided to hold the award ceremony for Dr. Nguyen Minh Hong at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Hanoi Grand Theatre. |
