Ho Chi Minh's thoughts and his Testament illuminate and guide our entire Party, people and army.

On the morning of August 30, in Hanoi, the Central Executive Committee of the Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the implementation of President Ho Chi Minh's Testament (1969-2019) and the 50th anniversary of his passing (September 2, 1969 - September 2, 2019).

The ceremony was attended by about 3,500 delegates from the Central and local levels, representatives of a number of diplomatic agencies, veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Labor Heroes of the Renewal Period, veterans, intellectuals, representatives of religions, ethnic minorities, students, people from all walks of life and armed forces of the Capital.

The speech at the ceremony by General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong stated: President Ho Chi Minh was an outstanding thinker and a genius organizer who founded, led and trained our Party. In his Testament, he "first of all talked about the Party", giving instructions on the most important issues of Party building and rectification, so that our Party will always be a true Marxist party, "ethical and civilized", representing the intelligence, conscience and dignity of the Vietnamese people.

He pointed out: "Immediately after our people's resistance war against the US to save the country was completely victorious,... the first thing to do is to rectify the Party, make every Party member and every Party cell strive to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, wholeheartedly serving the people. If we can do that, no matter how big or difficult the task is, we will definitely win."

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that before passing away, he left the entire Party, people and army with his sacred Testament, an extremely important historical document, crystallizing the cultural ideology, intelligence, morality and noble soul of a great man.

President Ho Chi Minh spent a lot of time and effort, quietly and carefully preparing himself to complete his Will within 4 years. With just over 1,000 extremely concise words, his Will conveyed to the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army the iron determination, strong belief and great strength of the Vietnamese nation; the strength of justice and the truth that “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”; the strength of patriotism and Vietnamese revolutionary heroism.

In his Testament, he advised, "Unity is an extremely precious tradition of the Party and our people". Unity creates strength, is the source of all successes, thanks to which, "since its founding, our Party has united, organized and led our people to enthusiastically fight from one victory to another". To build and consolidate the great national unity, first of all, there must be unity within the entire Party. Unity within the Party is the premise, the nucleus of the great national unity. Unity within the entire nation is the basis for promoting and combining national strength with the strength of the times, the premise for victory in the cause of national liberation, national unification and building a new society.

Solidarity also contributes to preventing the risk of degradation of the ruling Party. Therefore, in his Testament, President Ho Chi Minh requested that Party committees and organizations at all levels, from the Central Committee to the Party cell, and each cadre and Party member must strive to "preserve the unity and consensus of the Party as if preserving the pupil of one's eye".

The General Secretary and President affirmed: Right from the time of preparing to establish the Party, until before passing away, President Ho Chi Minh's top concern was to build the Party in terms of ethics. He advised: "Our Party is a ruling Party. Each Party member and cadre must be truly imbued with revolutionary ethics, truly thrifty, honest, impartial and selfless. We must keep our Party truly clean, worthy of being a leader, a truly loyal servant of the people."

In Ho Chi Minh's thought, the most prominent and consistent is the thought of national liberation at the same time as social liberation, human liberation, opening up great new prospects for human and social development. He especially emphasized "First is the work for people". Immediately after the victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country, our entire Party, army and people must make efforts and quickly heal the wounds of war, take care to solve social policy issues, repay gratitude,... and build our country "more decent, more beautiful".

Therefore, the Party must mobilize all the intelligence and strength of the entire nation, "must have a very good plan to develop the economy and culture, to continuously improve the people's lives", and at the same time "must have a ready, clear and thoughtful plan, to avoid passivity, shortcomings and mistakes".

President Ho Chi Minh paid deep attention to each specific subject, especially caring for the young generation. He advised: "Cultivating the next generation of revolutionaries is a very important and necessary task". That is the concern for the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people, with all the qualities of truth - goodness - beauty, virtue, and talent, first of all cultivating personality, cultivating personal ethics, educating and nurturing the pure and noble soul of Vietnamese people.

When discussing international issues, President Ho Chi Minh demonstrated a great vision, a very humane, profound and subtle cultural perspective. He was deeply concerned with strengthening solidarity in the international communist and workers' movements and strove to promote understanding, mutual trust, peace and friendship among nations.

President Ho Chi Minh lived a glorious life, full of hardships and sacrifices, extremely noble and rich, extremely pure and beautiful. He devoted his whole life to the country and the people, wholeheartedly and with all his strength to serving the Fatherland and the people. He is a symbol, a shining example of revolutionary ethics of "diligence, thrift, integrity, impartiality and selflessness". Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style have shaped the Ho Chi Minh career, the Ho Chi Minh era - the most brilliant and glorious era in the history of our nation.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong noted: In the last words of his Testament, he spoke "about personal matters". Although he spoke about personal matters, it still contained many thoughts and concerns, still showing his thoughts and actions of caring for the country and the people; showing that throughout his life, he "had only one desire, the utmost desire, which was to make our country completely independent, our people completely free, everyone had food to eat, clothes to wear, and education". Saying goodbye to us, Uncle Ho had nothing for himself, except the most profound, the greatest, and the most important things for the people and the country, and he only regretted "not being able to serve the people longer, more". That is the political ideal, the moral culture and humanism of Ho Chi Minh.

The General Secretary and President stated: Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh's Thought and his Testament have always accompanied the nation, illuminating and guiding our entire Party, people and army to always be steadfast and loyal to his revolutionary cause and ideals, faithfully continuing the great revolutionary cause to which he devoted and sacrificed his entire life. Under the leadership of the Party, promoting the strength of great solidarity, determination and will of the entire nation, combining the strength of the nation with the strength of the times, our army and people have achieved great victories in the resistance war against the US, saving the country, completely liberating the South, reunifying the country, "fulfilling his wishes".

In the process of building and defending the socialist Fatherland, especially over 30 years of carrying out the national renovation, thanks to promoting the strength of the entire nation, with the joint efforts and unceasing efforts of the contingent of cadres, party members and people of all walks of life, our country has achieved great achievements of historical significance. "We can proudly and confidently report to Uncle Ho that under the leadership of the Party, our people have built our country ten times more beautiful and "more and more dignified and beautiful" as he wished. That further strengthens our belief in the victory of the renovation and the successful construction of socialism".

Over the past 50 years, the Party has made great efforts to preserve and consolidate the Party's unity and solidarity, to strengthen solidarity within the Party as the nucleus for great national unity; to "practice democracy extensively, regularly and seriously practice self-criticism and criticism", to strengthen and consolidate the close and intimate relationship between the Party and the people; to strive to consolidate and improve the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees, Party organizations and cadres and Party members; to promote strict and self-conscious discipline; to create positive changes and clear results in the work of Party building and rectification, in building the socialist rule-of-law State of Vietnam, to build the Vietnam Fatherland Front and organizations of the political system; to contribute significantly to consolidating and strengthening the people's trust in the Party...

50 years of implementing the Testament of beloved President Ho Chi Minh have left us with extremely valuable historical lessons. That is the lesson of firmly grasping the flag of national independence and socialism. That is the lesson that the revolutionary cause belongs to the people, by the people and for the people. That is the lesson of constantly consolidating and enhancing solidarity; solidarity of the entire Party, solidarity of the entire people, national solidarity, international solidarity. That is the lesson of combining national strength with the strength of the times, domestic strength with international strength. That is the lesson that the correct leadership of the Party is the leading factor determining the victory of the Vietnamese revolution.

“Being proud of all that has been done, but also worried and tormented by what has not been done or not been done completely. There are many shortcomings, weaknesses, difficulties and challenges that are hindering the process of innovation and national construction. If we are not determined and persistent in preventing and repelling them, they will threaten the fate of the Fatherland, the survival of the regime and the leadership role of the Party. That requires us to strive, promote strengths, correct and overcome shortcomings and weaknesses; absolutely not to be complacent, intoxicated with victory or pessimistic and wavering in the face of difficulties and challenges.”

Aware of its historical role and mission, our Party needs to deeply absorb the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh. More than ever, we need to promote the tradition and good nature of our Party with high political determination, resolutely and persistently fight against signs of degradation in political ideology, lifestyle ethics, and signs of self-evolution and self-transformation within the Party; and take care to build a clean and strong Party.
