From mixed garden to high-income fruit garden in Anh Son
(Baonghean.vn) - Determining that developing high-value fruit trees is an important direction contributing to transforming crop structure, improving production efficiency, and increasing farmers' income, the People's Committee of Anh Son district is implementing many solutions to improve the economic efficiency of gardens.
Ms. Pham Thi Sinh in village 1, Hoa Son commune has 4 sao of garden land, previously planted many different types of trees but the economic efficiency was not high. In early 2010, implementing the policy of renovating mixed gardens to grow fruit trees of the commune, she went to Ninh Thuan to buy red dragon fruit seeds to plant. Thanks to proper care techniques, the dragon fruit garden developed well, in the second year it was harvested, the yield reached over 2 tons/year, with the selling price at the garden of 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, Ms. Sinh earned more than 40 million VND annually.

In 2013, Dinh Son commune had a policy of restoring the Bai Phu orange brand. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa in Thang Tam village invested in planting 200 orange trees. With guidance from the commune's agricultural extension officers on the planting and care process, his orange garden developed rapidly and has now yielded its first harvest. On average, each orange tree yields about 200 fruits, equivalent to 40-50 kg; with the price of oranges fluctuating from 25,000 to 30,000 VND/kg purchased at the garden, he earns tens of millions of VND each crop.

In addition to dragon fruit and oranges, hundreds of other households in Anh Son district have also boldly renovated their mixed gardens and planted other fruit trees such as Dien grapefruit, apples, bananas, lychees, longans, etc. In particular, many households have proactively introduced high-yield, high-quality fruit tree varieties to increase economic efficiency.
Anh Son district currently has 690 hectares of fruit trees. Some types of fruit trees with large areas include: nearly 100 hectares of oranges in Dinh Son, Khai Son, Cao Son, Phuc Son communes; 39 hectares of grapefruit in Long Son, Phuc Son; 303 hectares of bananas in Khai Son, Duc Son, Vinh Son, Hoi Son, Hoa Son, etc.

In addition to planning key fruit growing areas, the district's agricultural sector also opens training courses and transfers scientific and technical advances into production, in order to encourage people to invest in fruit growing. By 2020, the district strives to have 1,000 hectares of fruit trees, with an output of 14,500 tons and a production value of 200-300 million VND/ha/year. Gradually forming concentrated fruit growing areas, turning fruit production into a profession and a main source of income, enriching people in the district.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Anh Son district said: Determining the important position of fruit trees in the transformation of crop structure, the district is focusing on implementing a project to improve the economic efficiency of the garden. In which, the orientation for fruit tree development in the period of 2016-2020 is to improve and increase the productivity and product value of the existing 690 hectares. At the same time, increase the total area of the district to 1,000 hectares in the coming time. In particular, developing fruit trees into concentrated areas in the direction of farms and family farms with each type of suitable crop. |
