The age limit for holding the title of State Professor is no more than 70.
In exceptional cases, the Minister of Education and Training may submit a proposal to the Prime Minister for consideration and appointment of some members of the Council of Professors and Associate Professors who are over 70 years old.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced a draft Circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on the organization and operation of the State Council for Professor Titles (HĐCDGS), the Councils for Professor Titles in specific and interdisciplinary fields, and the Councils for Professor Titles at the institutional level.
The amendments mainly concern the criteria for members of the State Council for Professorship Appointment. Specifically, the age of members of the State Council for Professorship Appointment at the time of appointment must not exceed 70. In exceptional cases, the Minister of Education and Training may submit a proposal to the Prime Minister for consideration and appointment of some members over 70 years old.
The age of members of the Faculty Council for Professorship Conferment at the time of appointment is no more than 67 for members holding the title of Associate Professor and no more than 70 for members holding the title of Professor.
In exceptional cases, the Chairman of the State Council for Professorship Appointment may consider and appoint a number of members who are over the age limit as stipulated in this regulation. The number of over-age members shall not exceed 1/3 of the total number of members of the sectoral or institutional Council for Professorship Appointment.
If a member of the institutional Council for Professorship Conferment receives disciplinary action ranging from a warning upwards, the head of the higher education institution shall propose to the Chairman of the State Council for Professorship Conferment to issue a decision to dismiss them and appoint a replacement.
