The working delegation led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - Deputy Head of the Provincial People's Council's Culture and Social Committee, surveyed Yen Na and Luu Kien secondary schools in Tuong Duong district. These are two schools located in extremely disadvantaged areas of the district and are on the list of schools proposed by Tuong Duong district to be added to the list of boarding schools for ethnic minorities.

School year 2017 - 2018, scaleYen Na Secondary School has 8 classes and 248 students, mainly ethnic minority children, of which 1/3 are Khmu students. Yen Na has 9 villages, 6 of which are more than 7km from the school and pass through many spillways, making it very dangerous for students to go to school during the rainy season.

Principal of Yen Na Secondary School Hoang Lien Son said that in recent years, more and more students have wanted to be boarders, so the school has requested to change the school model.

However, the biggest difficulty is still building facilities. After a period of mobilizing support from the people and all levels, the school's teachers have built 4 boarding rooms and 1 kitchen to serve the students.

Mr. Hoang Lien Son also said: “Currently, a row of 8 classrooms has seriously degraded and cannot be used. Compared to the current area of the school, if it meets the requirements, it is necessary to build high-rise classrooms to save space. The school has 94 boarding students in 4 rooms, so it is very cramped. According to universal education data, by the 2020-2021 school year, there are expected to be 308 students in all grades, so planning schools and building boarding schools is very necessary.”

At Luu Kien Secondary School, according to the request of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, this is a school that needs to be added to the list of boarding schools of the district.

Reporting to the working delegation, principal of Luu Kien Secondary School Dinh Xuan Hong said that each school year, the school has 8 classes with over 200 students.

Luu Kien commune has 6 villages, 3 of which are far from the school, and the roads are difficult to travel, so most students need to stay in boarding schools to study. Therefore, the school has developed a "Project to establish Luu Kien Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities" and has been approved by the District People's Committee. Currently, the school has 132/228 students staying in boarding schools.

However, the current school campus is too small, so there is only enough room for 42 students from the farthest village to stay in boarding houses. The remaining 90 students have to make temporary shelters or rent rooms near the school.

Mr. La Van Bong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Luu Kien commune added that the commune and district have approved the construction plan and when there is funding, priority will be given to building boarding houses for students first.

At the meetings, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - Deputy Head of the Provincial People's Council's Social and Cultural Committee acknowledged the feedback from the grassroots and said that through the actual survey, the delegation will synthesize and submit to the competent authorities to complete the content in preparation for the report before the Provincial People's Council meeting on the issue of planning the school network in the province.

At the meetings, the delegation also presented flowers and gifts to congratulate teachers and staff of the schools on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
