(Baonghean.vn) Dang and Pot villages, Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district, are mostly inhabited by Thai ethnic people. In recent years, the entire agricultural land area of the villagers has mainly been used for crop production following old practices, with low productivity. To help the villagers have stable, long-term and effective farming methods, in the spring of 2011, the district's Agricultural Extension Station coordinated with the Western Nghe An Development Project - VIE 028, to pilot a new peanut growing model - L14 on land along the streams and behind the fields.
Intensive cultivation model of new peanut variety - L14 on flat land along the stream in Tuong Duong.
After more than 3 months of implementation, the harvest results are much more effective than other crops. The average yield is 2.5 tons/ha. This is a new direction in production for the people, eliminating old farming practices, promoting the conversion of suitable crop structures, and high economic efficiency.
From the effectiveness of the new peanut growing model - L14 in Dang and Pot villages, Nga My commune, in the coming time, Tuong Duong district will continue to replicate the model in some remote villages with terrain and climate like Nga My commune to gradually convert the crop structure appropriately, bringing economic efficiency, increasing income, and stabilizing people's lives.
