The US cannot make the most of its F-35 fighters and warships against maritime powers. The fundamental problem is a lack of technology. Breakingdefence portal has revealed this problem.

US Marine Corps Commandant General Robert Neller, speaking at a naval forum on Capitol Hill, talked about the current problems of the US army and navy.

According to this general, the US military, including the Marine Corps, must be equipped with the most advanced technologies, from long-range artillery systems to high-tech warships and submarines. Furthermore, the modernization and re-equipment of the Navy as well as Marine Corps units is a priority task to be able to eliminate the forces of opponents at sea.

In addition, General Neller also said that maintaining the right balance is extremely important. The US Navy and Marine Corps need high-tech weapons to fight at sea.

The US's continued production of F-22 and F-35 fighters stems from serious shortcomings of its predecessor, the F-117.

General Neller also believes that equipping warships with modern command centers, electronic computing systems and communications equipment is equally important. This will give the US Navy the ability to operate effectively within the framework of a network-centric strategy.

The general explained that the US Navy is currently unable to operate effectively against potential enemies at sea (Russia and China) due to technological lag. He emphasized that the US Marine Corps has F-35 stealth fighters. Overall, this aircraft is not bad, as it has a large number of sensors and modern software programs to analyze information.

However, US warships are not equipped with normal network equipment, and accordingly they cannot transfer information normally to the F-35. As a result, this fighter cannot use its full potential due to technical differences and incompatibilities.

Furthermore, the US Marine Corps’ own warships and landing forces cannot exchange necessary information with each other. General Neller believes that this situation is to some extent destroying the combat power of the US Navy and Air Force.

According to the head of the US Marine Corps, this situation can be directly remedied through a strong modernization of warships in a synchronized manner in terms of command and communication. Moreover, all equipment must be designed with an open architecture to be able to carry out system changes in the future.
