In memory of Dr. Ladinsky - a friend of Vietnam.
According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in the US, a delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy in the US, led by Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong, attended a memorial service for Dr. Judith Ladinsky in Madison, Wisconsin, on April 15.
Speaking at the memorial service, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong, on behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, expressed deep sorrow for the family of Dr. Judith Ladinsky; and thanked her for her immense contributions, as Chair of the Vietnam-US Committee for Scientific Cooperation, in bridging the gap between the scientific communities of the two countries since the early 1980s, before relations were normalized, thereby contributing to laying the foundation for practical cooperation in many fields such as health, agriculture, education, natural sciences, and social sciences between Vietnam and the United States.

The Ambassador also highly appreciated the sincere feelings and valuable assistance of Dr. Judith Ladinsky to many Vietnamese people, especially during the period when Vietnam faced many difficulties due to the US economic blockade and embargo, serving as a shining example of sacrifice and international solidarity.
The Ambassador affirmed that the Vietnamese people will never forget the sincere assistance of their American friends, such as Dr. Judith Ladinsky.
Dr. Judith Ladinsky was an opponent of the American war in Vietnam. Since 1980, she had been the Chair of the U.S. Committee on Medical Cooperation with Vietnam. In 1984, following the assassination of Dr. Edward Cooperman, the former Chair of the U.S. Committee on Scientific Cooperation with Vietnam, she volunteered to assume the position despite considerable opposition and even death threats.
Dr. Judith Ladinsky, along with the Scientific Cooperation Committee, organized numerous programs, projects, fundraising campaigns, and donations of medicines to help the people of Vietnam, especially in remote areas.
Dr. Judith Ladinsky also actively campaigned for the US government to normalize relations with Vietnam and encouraged many colleagues to support and participate in programs assisting scientific research, education, healthcare, and social services in Vietnam. In particular, with the enthusiastic assistance of Dr. Judith Ladinsky, hundreds of Vietnamese students have had the opportunity to study and work at universities in the United States.
In recognition of Dr. Judith Ladinsky's significant contributions, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam awarded her the Friendship Order in 1999. In addition, Dr. Judith Ladinsky also received numerous prestigious awards from various Vietnamese ministries and agencies.
In 2011, Dr. Judith Ladinsky also received the prestigious Peacemaker Award from the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice. The University of Wisconsin established a memorial fund named after Dr. Judith Ladinsky to continue supporting research and teaching in Vietnam.
Dr. Judith Ladinsky worked in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin and was the Director of the International Health Services Office. Dr. Judith Ladinsky was born on June 16, 1938, and passed away on April 12 of this year.
