After setting a Vietnamese record seven years ago, the Maitreya Buddha statue on Mount Cam in An Giang has been recognized as an Asian record holder.

The statue, over 33 meters tall, is located on a 2-hectare site on the majestic Thien Cam Son mountain in An Hao commune, Tinh Bien district (An Giang province) and was completed at the end of 2005.

The statue's base measures 27x27 meters, with a total weight of nearly 1,700 tons including the base and the statue itself. The base is made of stone with high-quality reflective glass in a vibrant green color, symbolizing a diamond. From any vantage point on Mount Cam, visitors can see the bright white statue of Maitreya Buddha, seated majestically amidst the lush greenery, with a gentle smile.

In early 2006, the statue was recognized as a Vietnamese record. The ceremony to officially recognize the Maitreya Buddha statue on Mount Cam as an Asian record will be held at 9:00 AM on May 29th.

Mount Cam is the most beautiful of the seven mountains in the Thất Sơn range, located about 90 km from the center of Long Xuyên city. Besides its ideal natural environment, Mount Cam is also famous for its many beautiful scenic spots.
