Turan contributed greatly to helping Barca win the Spanish Super Cup

The Turkish midfielder scored twice in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup, helping Barca beat Sevilla 3-0.

Playing as a left winger in place of Neymar, Arda Turan impressed the audience with his exquisite finishing. In the tenth minute, after a pass from Messi, the midfielder opened the scoring with a left-footed shot. In the second half, the audience was even more impressed when they saw Turan shoot the ball into the top corner from 25 meters.

Along with Messi's accurate header, Turan's two goals helped Barca win 3-0 in the second leg. The Catalan team thus beat Sevilla 5-0 on aggregate, and won the Spanish Super Cup for the 12th time. This is a record in the history of the tournament.

For Sevilla, it was the second time in a row that they lost a Super Cup match in a week. Last week, after leading 2-1 into extra time, Sevilla suffered a 2-3 defeat against Real in the European Super Cup.

Following a 2-0 win in the first leg last Sunday, Barca entered the return leg in a relatively relaxed mood. Coach Luis Enrique fielded several experimental players, including four new signings: Umtiti, Digne, Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez. The Barca tactician even left out main striker Luis Suarez, instead playing Munir El Haddadi in his place as a centre-forward.

Most of Enrique's experiments have been either good or adequate. At the back, Umtiti looked solid when partnering Mascherano. Digne also impressed at left-back, replacing Jordi Alba. In midfield, Denis and Andre Gomes have been versatile and have initially adapted to Barca's style of play. It was Andre Gomes who helped create the opening goal with a pass to Messi, who then threaded the ball down to Turan.

Turan's left-footed shot was not too strong but enough to make the opponent helpless.

After a first half that ended with many missed opportunities, Barca quickly finished the match in the second half. Despite having new coach Jorge Sampaoli, a famously disciplined coach, Sevilla still made many mistakes, typically the wrong judgment in the 47th minute. Immediately, Turan received the ball and punished his opponent with an artistic chip.

Just nine minutes after Turan completed his double, Messi put the final nail in the coffin for Sevilla. The striker didn't even need to jump high to head the ball into the far corner, forcing goalkeeper Sergio Rico to dive but still couldn't save it.

After the Super Cup victory, coach Enrique can worry less about Neymar not returning. With Turan's good form, Barca now has another player who plays as a striker at a decent level. This is a timely addition to the attack line that only has Messi, Suarez and El Haddadi playing in their best position.
