According to the indictment, with the purpose of trafficking drugs for profit, Dong and Trinh contacted a man named Hoang (Lao nationality) to discuss buying 20 heroin cakes (priced at 150 million VND/cake) and 1 kg of crystal meth (priced at 11,000 USD).
After agreeing on the purchase and delivery location, on January 30, Dong drove Trinh to Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son) to receive 20 heroin cakes (weighing nearly 6.9 kg) and 5 packages of crystal meth (nearly 4.9 kg) from Hoang's henchmen. When riding the motorbike to Luu Kien commune (Tuong Duong), he was discovered and arrested by the police.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted their crimes and asked for leniency from the law.
Considering the large amount of drugs that the defendants bought and sold, their behavior was especially dangerous, and they needed to be permanently eliminated from society, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Dong and Nguyen Huu Trinh to death.
