Man sentenced to death for trafficking more than 3.6kg of drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - On February 27, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Dang Danh Tuan (born in 1988, residing in Cua Nam ward, Vinh city) and Vo Hang Nga (born in 1992, residing in Truong Thi ward, Vinh city) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
Dang Danh Tuan was previously administratively punished for gambling and was tried four times for drug-related crimes. Tuan recently completed a 39-month prison sentence for “Illegal possession of narcotics” in June 2022.
According to the indictment, on the afternoon of September 27, 2022, the police caught Vo Hang Nga red-handed holding a bag containing nearly 1kg of drugs getting out of the car driven by Tuan. Checking the car, the police seized another bag of drugs weighing nearly 1.3kg.
Arrested by the police, Dang Danh Tuan confessed that he was hiding 2 bags of drugs at home.
Tuan bought this amount of drugs from a man named Quang (specific identity not determined) for 300 million VND, with the intention of selling it for profit. Because a customer ordered 1kg, Tuan took the drugs to sell.
When he was about to deliver the goods to a customer, Nga called to ask for a ride home, so Tuan picked her up and went with her. When Nga got in the car, Tuan did not know that this woman was carrying drugs. When he arrived at the location of the transaction with the customer, Tuan asked Nga to take the bag of drugs down so he could find a parking space.
At the trial, defendant Dang Danh Tuan accepted responsibility for the drugs Nga held for him and the drugs hidden at home, with a total weight of more than 3.6 kg. This male defendant affirmed that he had no connection with the 1.3 kg of drugs Nga seized in the car by the police.
Defendant Nga also admitted that the 1.3kg of drugs seized by the police in the car belonged to her. The female defendant said she sold the drugs to Tuan, but could not provide evidence of the exchange or sale between the two parties.
The trial panel determined that there was sufficient basis to hold defendant Tuan criminally responsible for more than 3.6 kg of drugs; defendant Nga criminally responsible for more than 1.3 kg of drugs.
Considering the entire case, the personal background of each defendant, the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the first instance trial panel sentenced Dang Danh Tuan to death and Vo Hang Nga to 20 years in prison.
