(Baonghean.vn) - The Propaganda Department of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 884 (dated September 14) on propaganda to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of comrade Vo Van Kiet (November 23, 1922 - November 23, 2022).

The Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department requested localities and units to organize propaganda activities about the life and revolutionary career of comrade Vo Van Kiet: A typical leader of the Party, State and People; an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh; a loyal revolutionary soldier who fought all his life for national independence and socialism.

Comrade Vo Van Kiet's great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, especially his strategic thinking, determination to innovate, close-knit and decisive working style, always exploring and worrying in the process of organizing and implementing the country's innovation policy initiated and led by the Party.

Agencies, units, localities, and press agencies focus on promoting the noble qualities of comrade Vo Van Kiet: Always devoted to the country and the people, taking the Party's ideal goals, serving the Fatherland and the people as the reason for living; always upholding the exemplary pioneering spirit and preserving solidarity and unity within the Party, loving compatriots, tightening the flesh-and-blood relationship between the Party and the people, strengthening the great national solidarity bloc; being a shining example for cadres, party members, people of all walks of life, and the young generation of Vietnam to learn from and follow. Associated with the fight against and refuting false and hostile information and viewpoints that sabotage the Party, the State, and the socialist regime, and distorting the life and revolutionary career of comrade Vo Van Kiet.

Propaganda to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Comrade Vo Van Kiet is combined with propaganda of major holidays, important political events of the country, the province, the locality and the unit. From there, encourage and motivate all classes of people, especially the young generation, to strive to study, work, and contribute their strength and intelligence to build the homeland and the country to become more and more prosperous and civilized.

Comrade Vo Van Kiet, birth name Phan Van Hoa, alias Sau Dan, was born on November 23, 1922 in Trung Hiep commune, Vung Liem district, Vinh Long province.

Born into a family with a rich revolutionary tradition, a steadfast son of the Southern land. Phan Van Hoa joined the revolution at the age of 16 in the "Anti-Imperialist Youth" movement in 1938. In November 1939, he was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party. During the Southern uprising, he was a member of the District Party Committee and Party Cell Secretary in Vung Liem district.

After the August Revolution in 1945, when the French colonialists reoccupied the South, comrade Vo Van Kiet was appointed as Political Commissioner of the Southwest Inter-Provincial Revolutionary Militia. From 1950 to the end of 1970, he held important positions in the South such as: Secretary of the Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee; Deputy Secretary of the Hau Giang Inter-Provincial Party Committee; Secretary of the T.4 Regional Party Committee (Saigon - Gia Dinh).

In 1972, Comrade Vo Van Kiet was elected as an official member of the Party Central Committee, term III. From 1973 to 1975, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam. During the preparation for the liberation of Saigon, he was assigned by the Central Office the important responsibility of being the Special Party Secretary in the Saigon City Military Management Committee.

In 1976, he was elected Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and Member of the 6th National Assembly.

At the 4th National Congress of the Party, he was re-elected to the Party Central Committee, elected as an alternate member of the Politburo and assigned as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee until 1982.

At the 5th, 6th and 7th National Congresses, he was re-elected to the Party Central Committee and elected by the Party Central Committee as a member of the Politburo. At the 8th National Congress, comrade Vo Van Kiet was once again elected to the Party Central Committee and nominated as a member of the Politburo Standing Committee.

In February 1987, he was a member of the 8th National Assembly and held the positions of Chairman of the State Planning Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman, First Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

At the first session of the 9th National Assembly (1992 - 1997), Comrade Vo Van Kiet was honored to be elected by the National Assembly as Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vice Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. After that, he assumed the role of Advisor to the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam from December 1997 to April 2001.

Comrade Vo Van Kiet was one of the "Chief Engineers" of many important large projects during the period of national renovation such as: Tri An, Thac Mo, Yaly, Phu My Hydropower Plants; 500kV North-South power transmission line, Ho Chi Minh road, My Thuan bridge, Dung Quat oil refinery...

During his fighting and working career, the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet was always trusted and loved by the Party, the State and the people. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 60-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and the State.

Comrade Vo Van Kiet passed away on June 11, 2008 in Ho Chi Minh City, at the age of 86.
