Absolutely no entrance exams for grade 6 will be held.
The Ministry of Education and Training has just sent a document to provincial Departments of Education and Training requesting that they absolutely not organize entrance exams for students entering grade 6.
A document signed by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien on March 17th, sent to provincial Departments of Education and Training, requested that localities: "Do not organize specialized schools at the primary and secondary levels, except for schools specializing in physical education and sports," and "absolutely no entrance exams for grade 6."
According to the document, lower secondary education is the compulsory level of education for young people aged 11 to 18 who have not yet graduated from lower secondary school.

Enrollment in educational institutions must ensure the successful achievement of the goal of universal lower secondary education in each locality; enrollment must meet targets and plans, without exceeding regulations on the number of students per class and the number of classes compared to the school's capacity in terms of teacher-to-class ratio and physical facilities.
Admission to the 6th grade of lower secondary school must be done through a selection process.
The Ministry of Education and Training requires that if educational institutions have a number of registered students exceeding their enrollment quota, the provincial Departments of Education and Training must direct these institutions to develop appropriate enrollment plans based on current regulations and submit them to the competent local authorities for consideration and decision.
However, the examination method will not be applied in these cases.
