World EUR/USD exchange rate today May 11, 2025
The EUR/USD pair rose to 1.1248, after falling to a three-week low around 1.12 earlier. The recovery came as the US dollar weakened slightly, as markets turned cautious ahead of key US-China trade talks scheduled for Saturday in Switzerland.

The US dollar index (DXY), which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six major currencies, fell from a near one-month high of 100.85 to around 100.40.
The weakness reflects market sentiment that has not yet fully trusted the substance of Washington's recent trade deals, especially as the US-China trade war remains a key risk factor to global economic growth.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sounded optimistic, saying China was aiming to ease tensions and lower interest rates. He also revealed that the US administration would announce more trade deals next month.
At the same time, President Trump wrote on social media that the 80% tariff on China was “reasonable”, raising speculation about the possibility of changing the tax policy depending on the progress of negotiations.
The euro also rose sharply over the weekend, despite dovish comments from the European Central Bank (ECB). ECB officials acknowledged that inflation was moving toward the 2% target, but also expressed concern about the weak economic growth outlook.
Finland's central bank governor Olli Rehn said a rate cut would be appropriate if the trend continued to be confirmed in the June forecast report.
In addition, the market is awaiting a response from the US after the European Union published a consultation paper on trade countermeasures, proposing to impose tariffs of up to 95 billion euros on imported goods from the US if negotiations do not yield positive results. This move could further strain transatlantic trade relations.
