Global market developments

On the international market, the US dollar is fluctuating within a narrow range and is trending towards its sharpest annual decline since 2017. Analysts predict that the currency may continue to weaken next year due to the possibility of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) further easing monetary policy in 2026.

Today's foreign exchange rates (December 25th) are fluctuating within a narrow range.

In the latest trading session, the Euro (EUR) fell 0.14% to $1.1778/EUR, while the British Pound (GBP) dropped 0.13% to $1.3498/GBP. Traders are pricing in the likelihood of the Fed implementing two 25-basis-point interest rate cuts over the next year.

The Japanese Yen has risen again.

The Japanese yen rose 0.25% against the US dollar, reaching 155.84 yen/USD. This increase followed strong warnings from Japanese officials about the possibility of intervening in the foreign exchange market to prevent excessive depreciation of the yen.

Although the Bank of Japan (BoJ) raised interest rates last week, the move was anticipated by the market. Recent statements by Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama have limited the currency's decline, especially amid low trading volumes at the end of the year.
