USD exchange rate today September 24, 2024: The USD exchange rate in the world increased slightly by 0.19%. The State Bank announced the central VND/USD exchange rate down 22 VND compared to yesterday.
USD exchange rate today in the world
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the US dollar's performance against six other major currencies, edged up 0.19% to 100.91.
The US dollar had a slight gain in recent trading, while the euro fell against the dollar due to weak reports on business activity in the eurozone.
Weak economic data from the eurozone has raised expectations that the European Central Bank (ECB) will likely cut interest rates further this year, with markets pricing in a 77% chance of at least a 25 basis point cut at its meeting in October.
A survey by S&P Global showed that business activity in the eurozone contracted sharply this month, with Germany exemplifying the broader downturn. Meanwhile, the French economy stagnated after a boost from the Olympic Games in August.
US business activity remained steady in September. However, prices of goods and services rose rapidly, reaching a six-month high, potentially causing inflation in the near term.
The figures come after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 0.5% last week, aiming to keep the economy balanced.
The US Composite PMI, which measures manufacturing and services activity, was little changed at 54.4, compared with 54.6 in August, according to S&P Global.
The DXY index, which measures the value of the USD against other currencies, rose to 101.23 in recent trading.
The euro fell 0.39 percent to $1.112, on track for its biggest fall since September 9.
The dollar fell for a third straight week after the Fed cut interest rates, and there are expected to be more speeches from Fed officials this week, including Chairman Jerome Powell and Governors Michelle Bowman, Lisa Cook and Adriana Kugler.
The pound edged up 0.2% to $1.3345, and even touched its highest level since March 3 at $1.33595. The gain came after a report that UK business growth slowed this month.
The Bank of England decided to leave interest rates unchanged at its policy meeting last week, stressing the need to be cautious in adjusting interest rates to avoid making changes too quickly or excessively.
The dollar fell 0.37 percent against the Japanese yen to 143.38 yen after a holiday in Japan. Earlier in the week, the dollar hit a two-week high of 144.50 yen after the Bank of Japan (BOJ) decided to keep interest rates unchanged and not rush to raise them in the near future.
The Swiss National Bank is expected to announce new policy later this week, with the possibility of a 25 basis point rate cut.

The State Bank announced the central VND/USD exchange rate for September 24 at 24,126 VND, down 22 VND compared to the previous rate.
The reference USD exchange rate at the State Bank's Transaction Office is currently 23,400 - 25,282 VND/USD for buying and selling, unchanged for buying but down 23 VND for selling compared to the previous session.
In the free market, the USD exchange rate in Hanoi at 6:35 this morning was 24,953 - 25,053 VND/USD, an increase of 53 VND for both buying and selling compared to the previous morning.
Vietcombank currently lists the USD buying and selling rate at 24,430 - 24,800 VND/USD, an increase of 60 VND for both directions compared to the previous session.
BIDV listed the USD buying and selling rates at 24,440 - 24,780 VND/USD, an increase of 40 VND for both buying and selling compared to the previous session.
Vietinbank listed the USD buying and selling rates at 24,300 - 24,800 VND/USD, an increase of 30 VND for both buying and selling compared to the previous session.
Eximbank listed the USD buying and selling rates at 24,450 - 24,810 VND/USD, an increase of 50 VND for buying and 30 VND for selling compared to the previous session.
