According to Bloomberg news agency, the total net worth of billionaire Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, now has 12 digits on November 24 when Americans joyfully "opened their wallets" on one of the most exciting shopping occasions of the year, Black Friday.
Amazon accounts for 50% of online sales in the US on Black Friday Business Insider cited a new report from GBH Insights, saying online retail giant Amazon captured 45-50% of total online sales on Black Friday. Along with GBH Insights' figures, other market analysis firms show that Amazon's sales have exceeded $1 billion in the past 24 hours. |
According to information updated as of November 14, Mr. Bezos owns 78.9 million shares of Amazon. Based on the Amazon stock price of $1,186 when the market closed on November 25, this number of shares alone brings the Amazon boss more than $93.5 billion.
Amazon is not Mr Bezos' only business. He also owns the Washington Post and the space company Blue Origin.
Although it is difficult to put a value on these companies, Forbes magazine once estimated Mr. Bezos' total net worth at $99.6 billion.
With this latest development, the Amazon boss is the richest person in the world, the first billionaire to own more than 100 billion USD, followed by billionaire Bill Gates and billionaire Warren Buffett.
The Verge made a rather interesting comparison so that people can visualize the "terrifying" amount of money that billionaire Bezos owns.
Accordingly, as of one point on November 24, nearly 50,000 people (47,742 people) had responded to a tweet by Bezos on Twitter. If Bezos divided his current assets among all of them, each person would receive about 2.1 million USD.
