Billionaire Warren Buffett donates $2.9 billion to charity
American investment legend Warren Buffett continues to fulfill his commitment to give away the majority of his vast fortune to charity.
Recently, billionaire Warrent Buffett donated $2.9 billion worth of shares in his company - Berkshire Hathaway - to charity.
Following his commitment to give most of his huge fortune to charity, this American billionaire has been continuously giving away a large amount of his fortune for over 10 years.
This year, Warrent Buffett - one of the world's richest people - donated 19.6 million Class B shares to five charities. The bulk of the money - about $2.2 billion - went to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Four other foundations linked to the Buffett family will share the remainder: an education-focused foundation named after his late wife, Susan; the Sherwood Foundation, run by his daughter; the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, run by his eldest son; and the NoVo Foundation, run by Warrent Buffett's youngest son.
Last year, he donated over $2.8 billion in stock to five foundations. He did the same in 2014. In total, since 2006, he has given away $23.4 billion.
Billionaire Warrent Buffett is 85 years old this year and is currently the third richest person in the world with assets of 65.6 billion USD, according to Forbes magazine. He and billionaire Bill Gates - the richest person in the world today - founded the "Giving Pledge" in 2010 to convince billionaires to donate most of their assets, while they are alive or in their wills, to charity.
