U20 World Cup: England U20 drop points.
The English continue to disappoint in youth tournaments. After England's U23 team were eliminated early from the European U23 Championship group stage after losing all three matches, last night England's U20 team drew 2-2 with Iraq's U20 team despite leading 2-0 until the 74th minute.
England U20 squandered their two-goal lead.
Goal
England U20:Coady 41, Williams 52.
Iraq U20:Fayez 75 (pen), Adnan 90+3.
England U20 seemed to have a smooth start to the U20 World Cup when Coady and Williams scored against Iraq U20 in the 41st and 52nd minutes, respectively.
However, the Asian representatives – also considered the weakest in the group – fought valiantly to find a goal to reduce the deficit to 1-2 from a penalty kick by Fayez in the 75th minute. And in injury time, Adnan snatched a point for Iraq U20 with an accurate shot that beat goalkeeper Johnstone.
In the other match of Group E, Chile U20 came from behind to beat Egypt U20 2-1 despite playing with 10 men at the end of the match. This victory helped the South American team temporarily take the top spot in the group.
Meanwhile, in Group F, Uzbekistan U20 and Croatia U20 are in a dominant position after defeating New Zealand U20 3-0 and Uruguay U20 1-0 respectively.
