'U23 Vietnam is the top candidate in the group'; Coach Park Hang-seo returns to Korea to mourn his father
(Baonghean.vn) - Former coach of U22 Vietnam commented that Mr. Park and his team fell into an easy group in the 2022 U23 Asia qualifiers; Mr. Park Hang-seo had to return to Korea to mourn his father-in-law on July 9.

"We have a chance to top the table when we are in such an easy group. In general, the remaining teams have not made significant progress in recent years," coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan shared.
Mr. Tuan is currently the Deputy Director of the Youth Training Center of Da Nang Club. He led the U22 Vietnam team to the 2019 Southeast Asian U22 Championship in Cambodia. That year, the U22 Vietnam team finished third overall.

This coach commented: "We have a good U23 team with many potential players such as Nguyen Huu Thang, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Tran Danh Trung, Nham Manh Dung, Dang Van Toi, and Dung Quang Nho."
"When I was in charge of the U22 Vietnam team, the team lacked many key players, for example Doan Van Hau. The roster at that time had a core of U19 players, so the team did not have the strongest force," Mr. Tuan explained.
In the 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, U23 Vietnam is in Group I with Myanmar, Hong Kong (China) and Taiwan (China). Experts say that no team in Group I is strong enough to cause trouble for U23 Vietnam.
Previously, Coach Park Hang-seo and his team were in the top seed group in the Eastern region. Under Coach Park, U23 Vietnam won the runner-up position at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship in Changzhou (China).
To prepare for the U23 Vietnam team, Coach Park called up 7 potential players to the national team to participate in the last 3 matches of the second qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup. They are Doan Van Hau, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Le Van Xuan, Nguyen Van Toan, Ly Cong Hoang Anh and Nguyen Hai Long.
Group I will be held in Taiwan (China) from October 23-31. 42 Asian teams will be divided into 11 groups, with the 11 first-placed teams and the 4 second-placed teams with better results, along with host Uzbekistan, qualifying for the finals. The 2022 AFC U23 Championship will take place in Uzbekistan from June 1-19, 2022.
Coach Park Hang-seo returns to Korea
Coach Park’s father-in-law, Choi Bong-kyung, passed away on the morning of July 9 at the age of 89. The head coach of the Vietnamese national team and his wife, Choi Sang-a, were scheduled to fly back to Korea on the evening of July 9. VFF President Le Khanh Hai, along with members of the coaching staff and Vietnamese players, sent their condolences to Coach Park and his family.
Coach Park is expected to return to Vietnam in mid-August to prepare for the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup - Asia region. Vietnam is in Group B with Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, China and Oman. According to the schedule, the team will play the opening match on September 2, in Saudi Arabia.
