According to reports from local people, from the evening of August 21, 2016, fish were found swimming sluggishly on the water surface, opening their mouths to gasp and then dying in 11 cages of 8 households raising Grass Carp and Catfish.

The number of dead fish (as of 5:00 p.m., August 23, 2016) was 1,009 in 12 fish cages on the Nam Non River owned by 8 households. The average weight was about 2kg/fish, the estimated damage was 330,450,000 VND.

The district inspection team directly observed the reality at the cages of Grass Carp and Catfish and found that: the fish swam sluggishly, opened their mouths, gasped, when picked up the fish were very weak, and died after a while; there were no external signs of illness such as: bleeding, scratches, peeling scales, post-mortem examination of the intestines, gallbladder and internal organs were normal, the gills were slightly dark.

The District People's Committee has reported and proposed that Nghe An Fisheries Department send technical staff to inspect.

On the afternoon of August 22, officers from the Nghe An Fisheries Department conducted an on-site inspection. The results of the inspection showed that: No signs of viral or bacterial diseases were found; the fish gills were dark red (damage caused by sudden turbidity), and the fish floated in flowing water.

Experts believe that the cause of the fish deaths was local environmental shock (weather changes, heavy rain, turbid water; no discharge from industrial production areas; closed fish cages). Meanwhile, catfish and grass carp require a clean, oxygen-rich environment.

Therefore, in terms of food safety, fish can be used.

Currently, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district has informed the results of the inspection of the Department of Fisheries to the People's Committee of the commune and households raising fish in cages to harvest fish; at the same time, instructing people to hang lime bags in front of fish cages to clean the environment, aerate to increase the amount of oxygen in the fish cage environment; Do not throw dead fish into rivers and streams to cause pollution.

Tuong Duong district also proposed that superiors support people who suffered losses because this was the impact of storm No. 3.
