Provincial People's Committee directs handling of information about "dirty bombs" still hanging on Lan Toong mountain
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has just issued urgent dispatch No. 7966/UBND-NN directing the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to have solutions to rectify and handle the behavior of violating organizations and individuals.

Nghe An: “Dirty bomb” still hanging on mountain 2 years after sludge dam disaster
(Baonghean.vn) - Lan Toong Mountain is known as a place of environmental pollution through the collapse of the dam containing tin sludge of Nghe Tinh Nonferrous Metals Joint Stock Company in March 2017. Although after the incident, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Industry and Trade, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee paid attention to inspecting and rectifying, but returning here this time, the situation of tin mining causing environmental pollution still exists.
October 17, 2018Nghe An Electronic Newspaper published a report: "Nghe An: 'Dirty bomb' still hanging on the mountain two years after the disaster of the dam burst containing sludge". The article reflects the situation of environmental law violations in mineral exploitation activities in the Lan Toong mountain area of Chau Thanh and Chau Hong communes, Quy Hop district.

This is the cause of serious water pollution, directly affecting thousands of households in Chau Thanh, Chau Cuong, Chau Quang communes and Quy Hop town for many years.
Immediately after the newspaper was published, on October 17, 2018, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee issued urgent dispatch No. 7966/UBND-NN directing the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to have solutions to rectify and handle the behavior of violating organizations and individuals.![]() |

The document cites the direction of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong on this issue:
"To rectify and handle violations of organizations and individuals operating in mineral resources in the province in general and the Suoi Bac area in particular, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to direct relevant agencies to provide documents and assign specialized staff to closely coordinate with the Inspection Team of the General Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam. Based on the conclusions and recommendations of the inspection team, advise the Provincial People's Committee to effectively perform the function of state management of minerals and the environment in accordance with the provisions of law".

It is known that previously, on October 8, 2018, the General Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam issued Decision No. 958/QD-DCKS to establish an interdisciplinary inspection team to inspect mineral activities and environmental protection in mineral activities in Nghe An, including Quy Hop district.
As reported by Nghe An Newspaper, on Lan Toong Mountain in Chau Hong and Chau Thanh Communes (Quy Hop), there are currently 3 enterprises participating in tin mining, including: Hong Bao Ngoc Company Limited, Nghe Tinh Nonferrous Metals Joint Stock Company and Ha An Tin Company Limited. Of which, Nghe Tinh Nonferrous Metals Joint Stock Company was suspended after the sludge dam broke in March 2017 and has not yet resumed operations.
