(Baonghean)On the morning of January 31st, the People's Committee of Nghe An province held its regular monthly meeting to review the economic and social situation during the month and propose tasks and solutions for February. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – presided over the meeting.

During the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon, social welfare policies, with the involvement of the entire political system, were widely implemented. The total expenditure for visiting and giving gifts to war veterans and other social beneficiaries reached nearly 37 billion VND; the market was quite abundant and diverse in terms of goods; and prices of most items remained stable. Cultural and artistic activities celebrating the Party and the Spring Festival were widely organized, attracting tens of thousands of participants. Security, order, and food safety during the Tet holiday were generally stable; and the number of traffic accidents decreased.

Comrade Ho Duc Phuoc chaired the meeting.

Regarding the socio-economic situation in January, the province focused on directing the harvesting of the winter crop and implementing the spring crop of 2012; preventing and controlling diseases in crops and livestock; strengthening market inspection and control, stabilizing commodity prices, especially essential goods for the Lunar New Year; implementing resolutions passed by the 16th Provincial People's Council at its 3rd session; assigning socio-economic targets and plans to sectors and localities to ensure progress and timeliness; and focusing on disbursing funds for projects that meet the eligibility criteria.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assessed that the organization of the Lunar New Year celebration in the Year of the Dragon was meticulously prepared, safe, and economical, helping people to celebrate the New Year peacefully. However, some shortcomings still exist, such as: Traditional folk games are becoming less common, replaced by gambling, drunkenness, and disregard for traffic laws; cultural and sports activities at some venues have not attracted many participants.

Regarding the implementation of socio-economic tasks in February, the Provincial Chairman requested that all levels and sectors should supervise and inspect the implementation of the 2012 plan, ensuring that Tet and Spring festivities do not extend beyond the planned schedule. The agricultural sector needs to continue directing the planting of the spring crop to meet the plan and on time. The Investment Promotion Conference should be well organized; and budget revenue and expenditure tasks should be carried out effectively…

Also at this meeting, the Provincial People's Committee heard and discussed reports on: the situation regarding the implementation of the state budget; administrative reform work in January and tasks and solutions for February; and the report on the implementation of the 2011 and 2012 programs for drafting legal documents of the Provincial People's Committee.
