Ukraine wants to create a 30km-wide demilitarized zone.
The US President's special envoy said that Ukraine is considering withdrawing its troops 15 km and hopes Washington will persuade Russia to do the same, creating a demilitarized zone.

According to TASS, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that the Ukrainian authorities want to suspend hostilities along the current demarcation line, followed by the establishment of a 30-kilometer-wide demilitarized zone.
Special Envoy Kellogg told Fox News: "The Ukrainians want a freeze, a ceasefire in the current positions, and then they want to establish a demilitarized zone." He noted that Kyiv is considering withdrawing Ukrainian troops by about 15 kilometers and hopes the U.S. will persuade Russia to do the same.
Mr. Kellogg added: "That opens up a 30-kilometer zone where parties can monitor."
Furthermore, the US President's special envoy for Ukraine stated that Ukraine wants to establish a "comprehensive ceasefire for at least 30 days, with the possibility of extension." According to Kellogg, the US "really has a chance" to achieve a ceasefire in the conflict in Ukraine, and Washington is getting closer to this goal.
In June 2024, at a meeting with Foreign Ministry leaders, Russian President Putin outlined conditions for resolving the situation in Ukraine, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass and Novorossiya and Kyiv's refusal to join NATO. In Ukraine, the rights, freedoms, and interests of Russian-speaking citizens must also be fully guaranteed. Furthermore, Russia argued that all Western sanctions against the country should be lifted and a non-aligned, military- and nuclear-free status should be established for Ukraine.
