Ukraine: Russia attacks Kiev for the first time in weeks

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials announced a counter-offensive to retake Kherson in the south of the country, which has been controlled by Russia since the early days of the war.
According to Oleksii Hromov, a senior Ukrainian official, Russia attacked the Kiev region with six missiles launched from the Black Sea, hitting a military unit in the village of Liutizh on the outskirts of the capital Kiev. He also reported that the attack collapsed one building and destroyed two others while the Ukrainian army shot down one of the missiles in the town of Bucha.
Chernihiv region governor Vyacheslav Chaus also confirmed that Russia launched a missile here from Belarusian territory in the village of Honcharivska. Previously, the Chernihiv region had not been targeted for several weeks.
After withdrawing from Kiev and Chernihiv, Russia has focused its forces on attacks in eastern Ukraine, with some success. The renewed Russian attacks came a day after separatist leader Denis Pushilin called on Russian forces to "liberate Russian cities founded by Russians: Kiev, Chernihiv, Poltava, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Lutsk".
Meanwhile, Kharkiv - Ukraine's second largest city - experienced heavy shelling last night. Ukraine also continued its counter-attack in Kherson and said it had destroyed an important bridge over the Dnieper River on July 27./.
