The sound of air strikes was heard on the night of December 30 in the capital Kiev and Reuters recorded several explosions as well as the sound of air defense systems in the south of the city as Russia launched 16 UAVs.

The Ukrainian military said it had destroyed the UAVs. Seven of them targeted Kiev and damaged a government building.

In a statement on the evening of December 30, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Russian army had attempted to enter Bakhmut and Avdiivka, two cities that play an important role in Moscow's offensive to control the entire Donbass region.

According to Ukraine, Russia launched missiles at the Bakhmut and Kudryumivka areas in the south, and Soledar and the town of Kostyantynivka in the west of Bakhmut.

Russia also shelled Avdiivka, the nearby town of Maryinka and Nevelske, the statement said. According to Ukraine, Russian troops attacked further west in the Donetsk region, including the town of Vuhledar.

Russia's Defense Ministry said earlier that it had launched "large-scale attacks" on energy facilities and military targets to disrupt Ukraine's ability to repair equipment and mobilize troops.

Since October, Russia has carried out almost weekly missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Moscow says the goal is to degrade Ukraine’s combat capabilities./.
