The Russian presidential election will take place on March 18, with official campaigning starting on December 18, 2017.

In Crimea and Sevastopol, elections will be held for the first time after the annexation to Russia in 2014. Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent a note of protest to Russia about holding elections on the territory of Crimea.

“I think we will respond and react severely, because we have a series of bilateral agreements, including the Comprehensive Treaty (Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation). This would be yet another, very significant violation of the Treaty,” said Elena Zerkal.

According to her, Ukraine's response "does not need to wait any longer", and noted that the measures will involve representatives of the Crimean authorities who will assist in holding the elections.
