Application of biotechnology for agricultural development

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 23, the Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the Department of Technology Application and Development to organize a workshop on applying biotechnology and food to serve agricultural development in Nghe An province.

In recent times, the provincial Department of Science and Technology has focused on directing and promoting research activities, applying scientific and technological advances and achieved some outstanding results such as the passion fruit growing model associated with product consumption in Que Phong with a revenue of 400 million VND/ha; the red-fleshed dragon fruit model; the Vinh Hoa herbal rice variety was granted a plant variety protection certificate as a product rich in omega micronutrients used for people with diabetes; edible mushroom and medicinal mushroom products; safe tea and vegetable production according to VietGap; restoration of Nam Dan soybean varieties...

Some models have been replicated in production such as black carp farming on Ban Ve hydroelectric lake, expanding to more than 200 fish cages in Tuong Duong district; clam seed production model in Quynh Luu.

The program of preserving gene pools and developing intellectual property has been implemented in a new direction to create products: cows with ax heads, buffaloes and chickens from Thanh Chuong; cows with rumps; yellow flower tea, peanuts, Muong Noc Que Phong rice, Quy Chau incense, Van Phan fish sauce, Nam Dan soy sauce... contributing to increasing the value of goods. In addition, many technical measures have been successfully applied such as drip irrigation techniques on fruit trees and sugarcane, contributing to saving water; artificial reef construction techniques to protect and enhance aquatic resources for Nghe An sea; technology to produce functional products such as Spirulina and other pharmaceuticals to meet market demand.

At the workshop, businesses and units operating in the field of science and technology focused on discussing: The need to apply biotechnology and food technology in Nghe An in the agricultural sector; Introducing some products applied in the field of high-tech agriculture; The need to perfect technology and replicate models in the field of fertilizer production; At the same time, introducing technology, research results that can be applied in the field of plant varieties and the potential for market development in Nghe An in particular and the whole country in general...

The workshop opened up opportunities for cooperation in science and technology between the parties and promoted transfer cooperation in the coming time, towards creating new products and developing them into goods for the market. Thereby, strengthening the connection between research, training and production, business, supporting businesses and people to innovate technology, promoting the commercialization of science and technology products, contributing to promoting economic restructuring, improving competitiveness, labor productivity and product quality in the integration period.

This is also an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Nghe An province and research agencies, research institutes, universities and domestic scientists in the application and development of science and technology to serve economic and social development.
