Applying 'zigzag' technology to quickly filter water in winter shrimp farming in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - To control diseases and help shrimp grow quickly, recently some households in Nghe An have invested in building greenhouses and net houses combined with using "zigzag" technology to quickly treat water for shrimp farming.
Previously, intensive white-leg shrimp farming in Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town was mainly done in the traditional way, raising shrimp in earthen ponds and then in canvas ponds. However, in the past 3 years, people have invested in modern ponds with greenhouses, net houses and most recently, some households have applied new technology in rapid water treatment in shrimp farming to bring high efficiency.

To prepare for the winter shrimp farming season, Mr. Ho Dinh Nhiem's family in Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu) was the first in Nghe An to apply rapid water treatment technology through a "zigzag" system to supply clean water for shrimp farming. He learned this technology from major shrimp farming provinces in the South.
Mr. Nhiem said that on the area of the previous water reservoir, he drained the water in the pond and then put the "zigzag" technology into operation to quickly treat the water. According to Mr. Nhiem's explanation, up to now, households often take water into shrimp ponds only through a simple filtration step from a settling pond and then supply it to the farming pond.
With the “zigzag” technology, it requires investment in black tarpaulin, thick mesh nets, and bamboo poles to build square cells in the pond. When water is supplied to the largest “zigzag” cell, it will filter through the thick mesh and spread to other filter cells, and dirt and residue will stick to the mesh membrane. When it reaches the last filter cell, clean water will be supplied directly to the pond.
Applying this technology, farmers can use clean water whenever necessary, especially in cases of hot weather, bacteria growth or changes in environmental temperature.
“In addition to proactively supplying clean water to shrimp ponds, using this technology helps the water environment to always be stable when supplied to the pond, helping shrimp adapt well to the environment, not suffer from heat shock and especially the clean water source will control diseases in shrimp” - Mr. Nhiem shared more.
With investment in infrastructure, techniques and application of high technology, this winter crop of 2019, Mr. Nhiem's family raised 3 ponds in greenhouses, each pond has an area of 400 m2.2If successful, his family will harvest 5-6 tons of shrimp per pond, serving the market before and after Tet.
Not only Mr. Nhiem in Quynh Bang commune, but currently there are also some households that have started to apply rapid wastewater treatment technology to shrimp farming such as the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Quynh Minh); Nguyen Van Duc (Quynh Xuan, Hoang Mai town).

In the context of increasingly polluted environment, especially water resources, the application of high technology in water treatment for shrimp farming invested by people in Nghe An is really effective.
Many households have invested billions of dong in installing pipes to take water from the sea to raise shrimp; or building more ponds to filter out waste and residue, and most recently, using a rapid water treatment technology using a "zigzag" system. These methods are bringing high and sustainable results to farmers.
