(Baonghean.vn) - On May 26th, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected and encouraged the people in various localities to harvest the spring crop and prepare for the 2014 summer-autumn crop.

Accompanying them were comrades Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ho Ngoc Sy - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of the Department of Science and Technology, representatives of the Provincial People's Committee Office and leaders of Yen Thanh and Quynh Luu districts.

During the winter solstice, Nguyen Xuan Duong and his delegation inspected the purple medicinal rice variety, which is being tested in Vinh Thanh, Yen Thanh.

A quick report from the agricultural sector shows that the 2013-2014 spring rice crop was a bumper harvest across all regions. The average yield of nearly 90,000 hectares of rice in the province reached 6.8 tons/hectare. Encouragingly, several pure Vietnamese rice varieties have been introduced into production, yielding high productivity and quality, opening up a shift towards domestic varieties and reducing imports of Chinese hybrid rice varieties.

The short-day native rice variety CXT30 (95 to 115 days) achieved a yield of over 3.7 quintals/acre in Quynh Hong (Quynh Luu).

In the Yen Thanh rice granary, the average yield reached over 7.3 tons/hectare; some well-cultivated areas yielded over 8 tons/hectare. In particular, Vinh Hoa Co., Ltd. in Vinh Thanh commune continued its success by collaborating with local authorities and people to expand the area of ​​high-quality AC5 rice and successfully test-cultivating purple rice – a type of rice considered a medicinal herb with many nutrients, especially Omega fatty acids, which have high resistance to cardiovascular disease and cancer. The yield of this rice variety is comparable to other varieties, reaching approximately 3.7 quintals/sao (1 sao = 360 square meters), and its economic value is 1.6 times higher than other rice varieties.

Mr. Phan Van Hoa - Vinh Hoa-Vinh Thanh Co., Ltd. (Yen Thanh) introduced the purple medicinal rice variety to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Purple rice from Nghe An is considered a medicinal product with the potential to support the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Local people are investing in machinery for agriculture, freeing up labor and increasing production efficiency.

In Quynh Luu district, during an inspection of the rice fields, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee was pleased to see farmers harvesting high-yielding and high-quality rice varieties such as CXT 30 and C-uu multi-system in Quynh Thuan and Quynh Hong communes. The district leaders' report confirmed that this year's spring rice crop was bountiful with the highest yield ever; the average yield throughout the district reached 7 tons/hectare, with some areas exceeding 8.5 tons/hectare. During the production process, farmers boldly applied scientific and technological advancements, purchasing various types of plows, transplanters, and combine harvesters, shortening harvesting time, freeing up labor, and increasing crop productivity. Also in Quynh Luu, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong and leaders from various departments and agencies visited a successful clam breeding model in Quynh Tho commune. In the long term, this is an important model for providing breeding stock to boost aquaculture in coastal localities.

This result is the active effort of the entire political system and farmers, especially the introduction of pure Vietnamese rice varieties such as AC5 and CXT30, which achieve high yields and quality – a correct and sustainable approach. Despite the current hot weather, farmers are accelerating the harvest and simultaneously preparing for the summer-autumn crop.
