Methadone is still not enough, buying drugs for use and getting caught
(Baonghean.vn) - The judge questioned: Why did he use Methadone to quit drug addiction but then buy heroin to use? He explained, "The dose of methadone he took was not enough, but if he took a high dose, he was afraid it would be difficult to quit later, so he bought heroin to use."
On the afternoon of July 25, the People's Court of Thai Hoa town opened a criminal trial against Nguyen Phu Nam, who has permanent residence in Hamlet 4A, Nghia Dong commune, Tan Ky district, for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".
According to the indictment, at around 10:00 a.m. on March 31, 2018, Nguyen Phu Nam drove a motorbike to Ta Ngoc Ha's house in Hamlet 5A, Nghia Dong Commune, then went with Ha to Thai Hoa Town Medical Center to take methadone.

After taking methadone, Nam drove Ha to Quang Phong ward, Thai Hoa town. When they arrived at Khe Me area (Quang Phong ward), Nam told Ha to get out of the car and wait for Nam to go do some work and then come back to pick her up later.
Ha got out of the car while Nam drove alone along 19/5 Street to the house of Le My Hung, often called "Hung Hien" (born in 1977), residing in Nghia Son Block, Quang Phong Ward, Thai Hoa Town, to buy a package of heroin for 300,000 VND.
After buying heroin, Nguyen Phu Nam put the heroin package in his back pocket and then returned to pick up Ha. When the two went to the Forestry Processing Block 2, Quang Phong Ward, Thai Hoa Town, they were discovered and caught red-handed by the Thai Hoa Town Police working group.
In the Conclusion of the appraisal 466/KL-PC54(MT) dated April 6, 2018, the Criminal Techniques Department of Nghe An Provincial Police concluded: The white powder seized from Nguyen Phu Nam was heroin weighing 0.15 grams.
In court, defendant Nguyen Phu Nam stated that since 2016, Nam had been involved with the brown fairy. Once, while buying drugs for use, he was arrested by Tan Ky District Police and fined 1,000,000 VND for illegal possession of drugs. Around the beginning of 2017, Nam started taking methadone to quit drug addiction.
When asked by the judge why he used methadone to quit his addiction but then bought heroin to use, he explained, "The dose of methadone he took was not enough, but if he took a high dose, he was afraid it would be difficult to quit later, so he bought heroin to use."
Considering the defendant’s criminal behavior, the panel of judges believes that this is a dangerous act for society, a serious crime. Although he has been punished for illegal possession of drugs, defendant Nguyen Phu Nam is still “old school”. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with it seriously to have a general reformation and prevention effect.
Considering aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Phu Nam to 16 months in prison for illegal possession of drugs.
